A soft icon of radical comfort and quiet luxury.
The Soriana is a lost-and-found treasure from the early 1970s — low-slung, sculptural, and effortlessly inviting. Designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, its generous padding and relaxed form recall the kind of carefully undone elegance once found in Parisian apartments.
Wrapped in white leather, this version accentuates Soriana’s sensual curves and cloud-like presence.
“At the beginning, the workers did not understand that the leather covering was not supposed to be taut,” Tobia Scarpa once said. “Rather, it needed to appear like a soft, creased fabric curled around this soft mass…”
Like many iconic pieces from the 70s, it sits close to the ground — a quiet, democratic gesture that invites conversation, rest, and gathering without formality.
Cassina, the manufacturer, was pivotal in bringing avant-garde Italian design to industrial production — giving radical ideas the craftsmanship and reach they deserved.
And Afra & Tobia Scarpa, both architects by training, are known for designing with a deep respect for material honesty and tactile comfort — creating objects that are as intelligent as they are inviting.
An award-winner (Compasso d’Oro, 1970) and a design favorite for collectors and architects alike, the Soriana is more than a sofa — it’s an attitude.
The bottom is stamped with the manufacturer signature, ensuring lifetime authentication.
