Simoon Coffee Table by Patricia Urquiola for Glas Italia

A distinctive coffee table from the Simoon collection designed by Patricia Urquiola and produced by Glas Italia in Italy. The piece reflects Urquiola’s ongoing exploration of glass as a sculptural material, transforming it from a purely transparent element into a textured architectural form.

The table is constructed from 12 mm thick extra-light glass slabs, ground and polished with precise edges and assembled using UV bonding to create a seamless monolithic structure. Its defining feature is the surface finish: the glass is coated with a special granular texture made from crushed Murano glass, giving the piece a unique tactile quality and a softly shimmering appearance. This treatment diffuses light across the surface and creates subtle variations in tone and depth, making the table appear almost mineral-like rather than purely transparent.

With its clean geometric proportions and architectural silhouette, Simoon balances material richness with minimal form. The slightly elevated rear edge adds a quiet sculptural gesture while maintaining the purity of the design.
