A sculptural French table lamp attributed to Henri Mathieu, dating from the 1970s.
The shade is constructed from a series of brushed metal slats arranged around a central chrome stem. Each element follows the same curved trajectory while gradually shifting around the light source, creating the lamp's distinctive spiral form.
When illuminated, the structure filters the light through the spaces between the metal blades, producing a warm glow while emphasizing the depth and movement of the shade. From different angles, the silhouette changes considerably, making the lamp as much a sculptural object as a functional light.
Mathieu explored this type of kinetic, spiral construction across a series of lighting designs during the 1960s and 1970s. s.
