The LC2 armchair, designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, is one of the most iconic pieces of modernist furniture. Its radical design separated the metal frame from the cushions, a bold departure from the fully upholstered armchairs of the time. The result is a perfect balance between rational structure and luxurious comfort, which has earned it the nickname “machine for sitting.”
Le Corbusier himself was not only a furniture designer but also one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. Beyond the LC collection, his visionary ideas reshaped urban planning worldwide — from Chandigarh in India to the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille. In 1961, he received the RIBA Royal Gold Medal, recognizing his lifelong contribution to modern architecture and design.
Every Cassina-produced LC2 is engraved in its metal frame with the designer’s signature and serial number, ensuring authenticity — a mark that makes it both a piece of design history and a timeless investment that grows in value.
